Why Do Christians Celebrate Shrove Tuesday?

Shrove Tuesday (or pancake day) leads into a special time of prayer & fasting called Lent. Tradtionally, people would use up all the ‘luxury’ items in their cupboards by making pancakes before fasting began. Lent is like a time of ‘spring cleaning’ for a christian’s faith in Jesus and lasts for 40 days; ending at Easter. During Lent Christians practice special habits that help them draw closer to God.
