Church Opens Brand New Community Venue on Holderness Road
A brand new Community Venue is soon set to open to the public. After sitting empty for the last three years, the former Hull City Council Library Services building now has a new lease of life.
River City Church, a vibrant evangelical church based in East Hull, has taken on the lease at the Mount Pleasant Retail Park venue for the next five years. Situated behind Asda, Matalan and newly opened Evans cycles, the church are committed to using their new building to benefit the community.
Senior Leader of River City and Chaplain to Hull KR, John Flavell commented “This is a time when our community needs more support and hope than ever. We aim to be a source of life to the people of Hull just as water brings life in the desert. This is why we called our building “The Well”. Our plan is to listen carefully to what the community, really need and want.”
As well as opening a Job Club, running East Hull Foodbank and Life Skills courses, the church are asking the public to pop in during their launch week and give their opinion about what services, activities, socials or courses they would like to see run in the building.
The church, who meet in the upstairs room at The Well, celebrates its 5th birthday this month. Pioneered by some of the same people that started Jubilee Church Hull based in the City Centre, the group felt lead by God to come and do good in the East of the City. Previously meeting at The Old Boys Club on Garden Village and then at The Willows Social Club on Holderness Road. River City then had to move their services online during the pandemic.
[Quote] “It’s been difficult to maintain that feeling of love and family while we’ve all been physically apart from each other. However, we’re thrilled to be able to hold our Sunday Services in-person at The Well every Sunday at 10am, we look forward to welcoming anyone who is interested in finding a new church or has questions about faith.”
River City Church hope this new community venue will be a place where the people of East Hull can come to socialise, learn new skills and find help, love and acceptance no matter their background. Tony, who recently came in to contact with the church commented, “This is a place where you will be greeted with love and care. You can come and chat with leaders and learn about God and the Bible and seek help whenever you feel no one else can help”.
